CBME RETREAT 2023
The 2023 CBME Retreat on November 22nd was a success as we achieved our goals of coming together to discuss adaptations to Competence By Design, and to understand the urgent problems relating to assessment and resident burden, and to collaboratively identify strategies to solve.
Our key note speaker, Dr. Andrew Hall (University of Ottawa, Evaluation Lead for the Royal College), started the day and set the context for engaging discussion and evaluating CBD. Presentation of national, institutional, and resident survey data informed the working groups. The participants, a mix of Program Directors, CBD Leads, Competence Committee Chairs, Academic Coaches, Program Administrators, education leads, and a very engaged group of residents addressed 7 options for change recommended by the Royal College’s national evaluation working group. Our own Resident Experience Survey data was shared to bring forward the voice of our residents to discussions.
Working in groups by role in CBD, we considered the recommendations and prioritized strategies that would address resident and faculty burden and achieve the desired impact on CBD overall. Large group discussion brought some innovative ideas to consensus and provided a great basis for moving forward.
